Diwali is a major Hindu festival that symbolizes the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. It is also known as Deepavali and is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains around the world. Here are some things to know about Diwali:

When it’s celebrated
Diwali is usually celebrated in October or November, 20 days after the festival of Dussehra. 
What it symbolizes
Diwali symbolizes the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana. It is also associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesha, the god of wisdom. 
How it’s celebrated
People celebrate Diwali by decorating their homes with lights, flowers, and rangoli, wearing new clothes, exchanging gifts, and sharing food. They also light diyas (clay lamps) to signify hope and light’s victory.
